Dementia friendly screenings
Showing old, classic, films in our fully accessible theatre.
13th September • 11th October • 8th November
10am – 12.30pm
£5 per person. Carers free.
The lights are left on low and the audience is welcome to move around if they want to. Or even sing along to any musical numbers!
FREE tea, coffee and biscuits are served for half an hour before the film to give people the chance to meet and socialise with others, and to familiarise themselves with the cinema space.
Cinemas can provide us with a powerful way to reconnect with memories and others, yet aren't always accessible to people with dementia. For many the cinema would have played a huge part in their younger lives, offering a means of escape, a place to dream. Walking into one today can be a daunting experience, so we are hoping that our intimate theatre can be a supportive, yet evocative experience.
Perhaps cinema is, by its nature, dementia friendly? A social and sensory experience, designed to capture your attention and hold you spellbound. We are all creative beings, and we continue to respond if properly stimulated. The films and songs we have loved are powerful repositories of memory. Events like Cinamemories create opportunities for people with dementia and carers to continue enjoying these precious things.
Our cinema experiences are not solely for people with dementia; everyone is welcome at Zinc.
Why not stay for lunch? Our café is open until 3pm for sandwiches, snacks and meals. Afternoon Tea is available from £6.50 (must be booked in advance).
