Here at Zinc we are justifiably very proud of our Respite Weekends. With a small group of participants supported by our dedicated staff, these weekends provide a relaxed and welcoming environment where everyone can have fun and meet friends in a safe, supportive space.

Each respite weekend includes a full mix of activities inside and outside of the Zinc building, with visits to local spaces and restaurants as well as creative activities and lots of opportunities to kick back and relax too.  The latest weekend was no exception and our staff and guests all had a truly brilliant time.

Our creative juices were well and truly flowing with the craft sessions; starting off with a magical theme we made wands and crafted clay dragon eggs.  Working with clay is one of our favourite tools for improving wellbeing and encouraging participants to take their time and relax.  Our weekends are hard to forget anyway, but this time everyone went home with a useful and beautiful souvenir; joined by some of our Tolpuddle residents we had a great session decorating our very own plates.  We’re sure you’ll agree they’ll make any meal look even better!

It wasn’t all about getting our hands dirty, we also enjoyed some great fun with some brilliant board games…can you guess which game we loved the most if we say that Colonel Mustard was very busy in the library!?

To develop social skills and encourage interaction every respite weekend also includes outings and visits, and by popular request  we paid a visit to our local McDonalds for an end of January treat!  After all who doesn’t deserve a treat this time of year?!

Thank you so much to all our incredible guests who threw themselves to everything on offer – we hope they enjoyed themselves as much as we did!

Our next respite weekend will be on Friday March 15th to Sunday March 17th, there are still a couple of places available.  If you think this is something that would be of interest to you or someone you know please give us a call on 0122 365 626 or drop us a line on julia.cakebread@zincarts.org.uk
